Role: Board Members (2)
Location: Albany, Auckland
YES Disability Resource Centre (YES) is governed by two Boards, the YES Foundation Trust Board and the YES Services Trust Board. The Services Trust Board is seeking two new directors commencing in 2020.
YES is a not-for-profit organisation that is the hub of information and resources for people with a disability living in North and West Auckland, linking individuals to agencies and organisations that can help. Where a gap in services exists, YES works to fill this gap through innovative co-design with its Executive Advisory Group.
Although not remunerated, Board members are rewarded by the opportunity to enhance the effectiveness of this organisation that strives to achieve better outcomes for our community.
YES shares the vision of the New Zealand Disability Strategy and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities; that disabled people have the same right to take part in the life of the community as everyone else.
Just some of the specialist programs run by YES are youth mentoring, anti-bullying, driver education, and parenting support. YES supports leadership and governance in young people and is using Project Employ to set up a café to provide training and job opportunities.
YES also plays a national leadership role, facilitating New Zealand’s first youth disability forum to be held at Parliament known as iLead.
YES has a unique physical operating model in that it runs a purpose-built, disability ‘co-working’ community hub in Albany. Twelve other disability-related services operate from this hub that provides holistic, wrap-around support.
More information on YES is available in the 2019 Annual Report.
